The Layup

Every Shadow FX helmet begins inside the mold.

The process starts with a specialized gelcoat mixture passed down from a formula developed by legendary practical-effects artist Rob Bottin.

From there, fiberglass is laid up by hand inside the mold, building the helmet shell from the inside out.

No automated production line. No helmet coming off a 3D printer. This is traditional mold-and-fiberglass construction — the kind of hands-on fabrication that has been part of practical effects for decades.

This is where the helmet takes shape.
